Prince Charles Turns 60



Official portrait released on 13 November 2008 to mark the 60th Birthday of Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales.

Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, is celebrating his 60th birthday.


The party got underway at the Wimbledon Theatre with a performance in aid of the Prince’s Trust charity.


Eric Idle, a former member of Monty Python, was one of the performers at the event in South London.


Charles was born on November 14, 1948. A month later his mother, Elizabeth, had him christened Charles Philip Arthur George by the Archbishop of Canterbury.


His mother ascended to the throne when he was four-years-old.


The Prince attended Cambridge University and learnt to fly with the RAF.


He was invested as Prince of Wales by his mother Queen Elizabeth in a ceremony at Caernarvon Castle in 1969.


Charles celebrated his 30th birthday at Balmoral Castle with Harvey, a golden Labrador.


On July 29, 1981,Charles married Diana Spencer at St. Paul’s Cathedral.


He celebrated his 40th birthday in 1988.


Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in 1997 leaving Charles to bring them up alone.


Charles was married to Camilla Parker-Bowles April 9 2005 in a civil ceremony in Windsor.
